The Intern Experience at The Bancorp

What are some of your main responsibilities at The Bancorp?

Erin Bernecker, Commerical Lending Intern:
At The Bancorp, my day-to-day tasks consist of working on annual reviews, handling insurance matters, and managing various other projects. For the annual reviews on the lending side, I assess a loan's performance, evaluate the credit scores of the guarantors, and ensure the insurance is up to date. On the leasing side, I review and find the certificates of insurance for vehicles and equipment that the bank lends to different businesses. Additionally, I am available to fill in gaps and assist whenever a team might need support.

Kadin Groen, Product Development Intern:
I am responsible for understanding the structure of our products and conducting testing to ensure they function correctly to protect the bank and our clients. This involves meeting with clients, analyzing transaction files, and reviewing collateral.

George Fraher, Modern Workforce Technology Intern:
This summer, so far I have primarily worked on automating tedious process for internal MWT employees and helping our active goal of documenting many processes.

Jack Eichacker, Credit Markets & Business Strategy Intern:
Over the past few weeks, I have been working on financial benchmarking for various fintech companies.

How has The Bancorp supported your professional growth & development during your internship?

Cadence Stewart, Modern Workforce Technology Intern:
The Modern Workforce Technology team has allowed us to touch many different projects and tools that I hadn't been exposed to during college. This has allowed me to gain valuable real-world experience with these tools.

Erin Bernecker, Commercial Lending Intern:
The Bancorp has been everything I could have wanted when going into my first finance internship. Everyone I have interacted with have been very patient and open to questions. We are able to work on real parts of the company which is allowing me to use the skills and ideas that I have seen in class and understand how they are truly used in business.

Grace Manion, Credit Markets & Business Strategy Intern:
The Bancorp has supported my growth and development by providing new work tasks that create opportunities for new learning.

Claire Binkley, Marketing Intern:
The Bancorp has supported my professional growth and development by encouraging me to get out of my comfort zone, providing me with hands-on experiences, and connecting me with thoughtful and inspiring mentors.

What experiences have been particularly memorable or valuable this summer?

Michelle McMorris, Commercial Lending Intern:
One particular experience was when I conducted a detailed review of a loan and discovered critical information that had yet to be uncovered by other team members. This not only validated my skills and contributions, but also promoted a deeper connection with the team.

Daniel Zhao, Audit Intern:
One of the most memorable aspects of my experience has been the dynamic culture within our department. I'm not sure if it's common for every department, but our team gathers for lunch together every day. This has been eye-opening for me being my first internship, offering a glimpse into what a supportive working environment and strong team culture can look like.

Carolina Montoya, Real Estate Bridge Lending Intern:
The mentorship from the team has been invaluable given the culmination of real estate experience and diverse backgrounds.

George Fraher, Modern Workforce Technology Intern:
Working at the Bancorp has given me real world experience and a feel for team based work in an on premise environment.

What advice would you give to future individuals interning at The Bancorp?

Carolina Montoya, Real Estate Bridge Lending Intern:
Don't be scared to ask questions and do your own research as it will give you more talking points and allow your understanding to deepen.

Claire Binkley, Marketing Intern:
Be authentic. Do not be afraid to be yourself – know your values, be curious, and celebrate your unique contributions!

Jack Eichacker, Credit Markets & Business Strategy Intern:
Set up time to meet with people from other departments to learn how the bank works as a whole.

Michelle McMorris, Commerical Lending Intern:
I'd like to remind future interns to embrace every opportunity presented to them. Take initiative, ask questions (even the ones you think are obvious), and don't be afraid to venture beyond your given tasks. Make fond memories, and know that everyone is rooting for you.
